State senator’s former brother-in-law convicted of harassment, intimidating

EVERETT — The former brother-in-law of state Sen. Steve Hobbs was convicted Thursday of multiple counts of telephone harassment and acquitted of intimidating a public servant.
Moses McBride, 37, faces up to a year in jail. He is scheduled to be sentenced next week. McBride was arrested in November after arriving on a flight from Vietnam.
He was accused of making threatening calls to the Lake Stevens Democrat and Hobbs’ sister, McBride’s ex-wife. Prosecutors also alleged that McBride demanded that Hobbs help him renew his passport.
He couldn’t get his passport renewed because he owed back child support.
Jurors weren’t convinced that his demands fit the crime of intimidating a public servant. They did find that McBride placed the threatening phone calls to his ex-wife and Hobbs.
