Boeing tanker gets nod of support from county

The Boeing Co.’s 767 tanker gained the support Monday of Snohomish County, where the tanker will be built.

The county council and executive director passed a resolution urging the Defense Department to select Boeing’s tanker.

Boeing could find out in the next few days whether Europe’s EADS will bid for the $35 billion contract on its own. EADS’ partner, Northrop Grumman, dropped out of the contest to supply the Air Force with 179 aerial refueling tankers earlier this month.

Despite reports that a Russian-backed aerospace firm planned to bid for the tanker, too, the company denied those reports yesterday.
