Man struck, killed by train

MONROE — A man died after he was struck by a freight train about 8:45 p.m. Friday near N. Kelsey Street and U.S. 2, Monroe police spokeswoman Debbie Willis said.

The man was in his early 30s and apparently had been sitting on the tracks, Willis said.

The only known witness to the accident was the train engineer, Willis said.
