A full week of fun at Monroe Library

Published 6:25 pm Sunday, April 4, 2010

Put a halt to the cries of “I’m bored” with a week’s worth of spring-break activities at the Monroe Library:

Kids ages 9 through 12 can practice the intricate art of paper cutting at 2 p.m. today. Paper cutting is a centuries-old art form that can be as simple as a silhouette or as tricky as woodland scene. This week’s projects have a spring theme.

School-age children can rustle up some snacks while learning about cooking at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The event includes stories and games too, all about one of our favorite pastimes: eating.

Have you always wanted to know about letterboxing, the intriguing outdoor treasure hunt? A letterboxing class at 2 p.m. Tuesday will show you how to get started. You’ll carve your own stamp and learn how to go on a quest. This active game is great for the whole family. The class is geared for ages 9 to 12.

You’ve heard of “dinner and a movie.” Well, this is “snack and a movie,” at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Disney movie promises to charm school kids, but you’ll have to call the library for the title.

Teens, get your game face on from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday. Bring your own favorite video, board or card games, or play the library’s stash: Guitar Hero 3, Rock Band, Smash Bros. and Brawl, to name a few.

Dig up some fossils at the library at 1 and 2:30 p.m. Friday with the traveling crew from Imagine Children’s Museum. School-age kids can learn about identifying dinosaur fossils and shark’s teeth.

All events are free but you need to stop at the library’s information desk to get a ticket. Space is on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Monroe Library is at 1070 Village Way. Call 360-794-7851 to go to www.sno-isle.org for more information about events.
