PREP ROUNDUP: Meadowdale posts comeback soccer win

SHORELINE — Experienced soccer teams don’t celebrate when they have a 1-0 lead with plenty of time remaining on the clock.
It’s a tough lesson, but one the Shorewood boys soccer team learned the hard way in a 2-1 loss to Meadowdale Wednesday night at Shoreline Stadium.
In the 60th minute Shorewood’s Essa Jallow set up a direct kick just outside the 20-yard line. Jallow played the ball low, bent it around the Meadowdale defensive wall and slipped it past the Mavericks’ Patrick Gove in goal.
The Thunderbirds (2-3-0 league, 6-5-1 overall), who have just three seniors on the roster, owned the game until Jallow’s goal, after which the Mavs (2-3-0, 3-9-0) awoke and scored two goals to eke out the Wesco South victory.
“Getting excited when you are up by one is something a mature team wouldn’t do,” Shorewood coach Mark Wisdom said.
“We had been keeping possession and got on our heels the rest of the game.”
In the first half Shorewood outshot Meadowdale 15-4 and held the Mavs without a corner kick. But, in the second half the Mavs flipped the script, outgunning the Thunderbirds 15-12. Additionally, Meadowdale added a six-to-one advantage in corner kicks after halftime.
Sam Werner got Meadowdale on the board with a shot from the cross of Mark Elder in the 68th minute. Werner was left unmarked in the box and booted a shot past Simon Aspinall in goal.
“That’s a dangerous thing,” Wisdom said. “(Werner) just set it down on the ground and buried it.”
The game-winner came two minutes before the final whistle when one Mav midfielder set up another. Cyrus Fiene found the back of the net thanks to a pass from Spencer Wailor.
Shorecrest 3, Lynnwood 0: At Bothell, after many near misses throughout the season, Shorecrest freshman Morgan West netted his first career goal in the 76th minute on a penalty kick past Lynnwood goalie Emiliano Suarez. Glenn Paden got the Scots on the board first in the 32nd minute thanks to a pass from Joe Schober. One minute into the second half, Hiei Rose found Michael Harris for the team’s second goal of the game. Eric Baker recorded his 10th clean sheet on the year and Shorecrest (5-0-0 league, 12-0-0) remained undefeated, while Lynnwood dropped to 0-5-0 in league and 1-11-0 overall.
Marysville-Pilchuck 8, Oak Harbor 0: At Oak Harbor, Brady Ballew notched five goals for Marysville-Pilchuck in a Wesco North win. Anival Moreno scored one goal for the Tomahawks (7-3-1 league, 7-3-1 overall) and Terance Johnson added two scores. Tucker Lundstrom started in goal for Oak Harbor (1-11-0, 1-11-0) and Blake Schulle finished the contest. Kyle Bluhm and Ian Beegle were the goalkeepers for Marysville-Pilchuck.
