History: Union Bank traces its history back more than 145 years to the founding of The Bank of California, the first incorporated bank in the West.

Financial power: UnionBanCal is subsidiary of The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, a member of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, one of the world’s largest financial organizations.

Buying spree: Union Bank recently acquired $600 million in assets from Tamalpais Bank after the FDIC on April 16 seized that bank, based in San Rafael, Calif.
