MARYSVILLE – High winds caused sporadic power outages throughout the city early today, causing several street lights to go out.

The Snohomish County Public Utility District , Marysville Fire District and city police responded to reports of downed power lines and non-working street lights.

Marysville Police Sgt. Brian Lutschg said officers were directing traffic at some intersections.

“People need to treat them as four-way stops,” he said, “because if traffic lights are out and people are running them, we’ll have a lot of accidents.”

He said the police department also lost power and is using a generator to supply electricity.

Neil Neroutsos, PUD spokeseman, said scattered power outages were reported from Everett north beginning early Monday.

Wind gusts of up to 50 mph also caused power outages in Stanwood, Neroutsos said.

“There are a lot of instances of tree branches coming into (power) lines,” he said. “We have to, in that case, go out and pull the limb off and re-set the circuit.”
