Tell us about Memorial Day

Groups all around Snohomish and Island counties offer Memorial Day services, meals and programs. Please e-mail us information for your event, including the time, date and complete address.

Send to newstips@heraldnet.com.

We will publish information a few days before the event, so it’s not too early to let us know what’s planned in our communities.

Donate at your mailbox: This Saturday you can help someone hungry in Snohomish County by placing nonperishable items next to your mailbox. Letter carriers plan to pick up the food as they work their routes. The donations go to 20 food banks in the county and Volunteers of America, said the Rev. Dick Gibson, director of the Mountlake Terrace food bank.

Wild time for pooches and people: The Everett Animal Shelter’s new location is celebrated at the Wild West Pet Fest from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the shelter, 333 Smith Island Road.

Event organizers hope to raise money for a new off-leash dog park proposed for property near the shelter and Langus Riverfront Park.

Wild West Pet Fest includes a costume contest, adoptions, vendors, raffles, free microchip tagging for cats and dogs with any donation to the off-leash area (Snohomish County residents only), licenses and identification tags engraved while you wait and an off-leash dog play area.

Car wash in Lynnwood: Lynnwood Elks Lodge No. 2171 and U-17 Youth Soccer offer a car wash from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Lynnwood Elks, 6620 196th St. SW, in Lynnwood.
