A Mill Creek man who has pushed for a veterans monument in his hometown received formal recognition from the Snohomish County Council on Monday.

Chuck Wright, a Vietnam-era U.S. Army veteran, lobbied Mill Creek city officials and collected donations from small businesses to build a tribute at the city’s Library Park to people who have served in the armed forces. The monument features a flagpole on a raised base. An official dedication is scheduled for 10 a.m. May 31.

The County Council on Monday passed a resolution honoring Wright’s efforts.

Wright’s inspiration for the project came from visits to military gravesites during a trip to the East Coast. Wright served in the Army from 1963 to 1966, part of a tradition of military service in his family. His father served in WWII, his brother in Vietnam and his son in Iraq.
