Edmonds: Forum covers public access

Washington’s public records and open public meetings laws are the subject of a Washington Coalition for Open Government forum scheduled for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 23 in the Plaza Room above Edmonds Library, 650 Main St.

Panelists include former state Rep. Toby Nixon; Tim Ford, assistant state attorney general; State Auditor Brian Sonntag; and Jerry Handfield, Washington state archivist.

Lake Stevens: Board members sought

The Lake Stevens Family Center is looking for people to serve on its Community Accountability Board, a volunteer committee that works with the Denney Youth Center’s juvenile probation officer to find service opportunities other than incarceration for first-time offenders.

Teens who are arrested for minor offenses may be eligible for the program.

The Lynnwood City Council is scheduled to hold the first of four public hearings on the 2011-12 budget when it meets at 7 tonight at City Hall Council Chambers, 19100 44th Ave. W.

Monroe: Celebrate dairy farmers

The Monroe Historical Society will feature a history of dairy farming Thursday at its annual Strawberry Social. The society will welcome Washington State University Dairy extension agent Ned Zaugg to discuss the topic. Free strawberry shortcake will be served at 6:30 p.m., before the presentation begins.

The event also will serve as a fundraiser for the society, with raffle tickets available for a king-sized quilt. The event is scheduled for the Tualco Grange, 18933 Tualco Road.

Everett: Nominate outstanding volunteers

Individuals and organizations that are helping to create opportunities for a better life are recognized each year with United Way’s Spirit of Snohomish County Awards. The 2010 Spirit Awards will be presented to those who advance the common good, demonstrating a broad and deep commitment to the community. Nominations are being accepted for adults, youth and companies that volunteer and inspire others to serve. United Way is also taking nominations for the Reeves/Sievers’ Founders Award for a lifetime of service.
