Edmonds: Mayor’s farewell reception

A reception honoring departing Mayor Gary Haakenson is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 Fourth Ave. S.

Haakenson, who served as mayor for 11 years, has agreed to become deputy to Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon.

Everett: Comment on apartment project

A developer wants to build a 56-unit apartment complex on 5 acres just south of Costco at 10604 16th Ave SE. A portion of the property includes a wetland.

The public has until July 7 to comment on proposed steps the developer could take to mitigate the environmental impact of the project. A wetland study and other information is on file with the city and may be viewed at the city planning department. Written comments also can be sent to Everett Planning Department, 2930 Wetmore Ave., 8-A, Everett, WA 98201.

City Council to vote on downtown changes

The Everett City Council plans to take votes on several proposed changes that would affect downtown at its 6:30 p.m. Wednesday meeting at 3002 Wetmore Ave.

They include allowing micro-distilleries and boutique wineries to set up shop downtown if they meet certain criteria, including that they be located in a building with a restaurant, retail use or tasting room.

Micro-breweries already are allowed. The council originally had planned to decide last week but postponed the vote.

Mountlake Terrace: Art sought for show

The Mountlake Terrace Arts Commission is seeking artist’s works for Arts of the Terrace, the annual juried arts show scheduled for Oct. 1-3. More than $3,000 in prize money is available. Deadline for entries is August 30.

Sultan: City Council, planning board meet

The City Council has scheduled a joint workshop with the planning board at 7 tonight to discuss the 2011 comprehensive plan.

Discussion may touch on population growth projections, changes to the city parks and community outreach efforts. The meeting will be at the community center, 319 Main St.
