Darrington effort to repair gym hits $30,000 mark

DARRINGTON — The campaign to raise $100,000 to repair the town’s beloved community center’s gym and roof reached another milestone Friday.

This logging town, which suffered economic stress long before the current recession, has raised $30,000 in just six months.

The members of the community center’s board of directors are to be honored as grand marshals of Darrington’s Independence Day parade on Sunday.

The board includes Diane Boyd, Judy Nations, Denise Baird, Holley Ross, Linda Ekstrand, Ed Pace, Don and Cheryl Marihugh, Trudy LaDouceur, Don Thomson, Diane Faucett, Owen Couch, Gary Cloer and Brian Roggenbuck.

Cookbooks to benefit the center are to be sold at Old School Park following the parade.
