Celebrate: Aquafest parade for kids

Children of all ages can decorate their bikes, wagons, and scooters and participate in the 50th anniversary of Aquafest on July 23.

The parade will begin on Hartford Drive, near the Lake Stevens Fire Station 81. Check in starts at 5 p.m. and the parade starts at 6 p.m.

Registration before the parade is requested. All children who are registered will receive a sun visor.

Donate: School supplies in Monroe

School recently ended for the summer for Monroe students but the Sky Valley Food Bank is already collecting school supplies and funds for the School Days Rule Days program.

Donations can be dropped off at the Sky Valley Food Bank, 233 Sky River Parkway in Monroe during hours of operation.

The Sky Valley Food Bank is open from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and Mondays from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Last year, approximately 650 underprivileged children received school supplies from the program.

Eat: Firefighters’ pancake breakfast

Lake Stevens Fire Department will host an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast on July 24 and 25 at the downtown fire station, at 12409 21st St. NE.

The breakfast of pancakes, ham and eggs will be served from 6 a.m. to noon. Donations will be accepted.

Lake Stevens Fire also plans to present a fire residential sprinkler demonstration at 10 a.m. on both days of the breakfast. There will also be a dunk tank.

Free: Edmonds health screenings

Free health screenings will be offered on July 31 as part of the Charis Family Clinic Health Screening Celebration Day.

Blood pressure, blood sugars, height and weight tests will be given from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Charis Family Clinic, 23601 Highway 99 in Edmonds.

A diabetes test will also be offered for $10 and an asthma and lung function test will be offered for $15.

Apply: Monroe board opening

Monroe residents can apply to fill an open position on the city’s Planning Commission. The commission reviews and makes recommendations to the City Council concerning land use issues.

Letters of interest can be submitted until July 30 to Mayor Robert Zimmerman, Attn: Eadye Martinson, City of Monroe, 806 W. Main Street, Monroe, WA 98272. Letters of interest will be accepted until July 30 or until the position is filled.

Help: Volunteer at Stanwood center

Stanwood-Camano Community Resource Center has volunteer opportunities for youths and adults, including working in its bookstore and doing grounds maintenance. The center is located at 9620 271st St. NW, Stanwood.

Volunteer: Hospice and home care

A free information session to review the volunteer opportunities at Providence Hospice and Home Care is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 18 in downtown Everett. Participants need to register by Aug. 16.
