Teen who died on Skykomish River rafting trip identified

SULTAN — The young man who died on a rafting trip on the Skykomish River on Friday has been identified as Russelle Joseph Yap.
Yap, 17, was an incoming senior at Cascade High School in Everett and a member of the school’s tennis team. He planned to float the river from Sultan to Monroe with eight friends but was pinned under a log by the current.
His companions on the trip were not injured.
Family members said a funeral is planned for Saturday. Details will be released later.
