The Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross, 2530 Lombard Ave. in Everett, named LeAnne Harrington, Cascade Bank, to serve as chairwoman of its 2010-11 board of directors. Harrington has been the executive vice president and chief administrative officer at Cascade Bank since 2001.
Other officers include: Mark McClure, the president of Ragen McKenzie, a division of Wells Fargo Investments, will serve as first vice-chairman; Pat Sisneros, vice president of College Services at Everett Community College, treasurer; Rochelle James, the emergency management director for the Tulalip Tribes, chairwoman of the fundraising committee; and Al Aldrich, the senior vice president of Strategies360, chairman of the 2010-11 nominating committee.
George Schmidt, most recently the chief financial officer for SE Group in Bellevue, and Jason Walker, a landscape planner with extensive experience with planning and environmental permit coordination, including at the federal level, were recently appointed to positions with Perteet Inc., an employee-owned consulting firm specializing in engineering, planning, environmental and survey projects. Schmidt was appointed chief financial officer for Perteet, and Walker will be the environmental- and community-planning manager. Perteet Inc. has offices in Everett, Seattle and Snoqualmie.
Home Care Association of Washington has hired C.C. Leonard as its executive director and Doris Visaya as director of professional affairs.
Twenty students from the Beta Alpha Psi accounting society at the University of Washington’s Bothell campus volunteered their time in spring to prepare tax returns through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. The team prepared 534 returns. VITA is a free tax-preparation program, sponsored by the IRS that is offered to low-income, elderly, disabled and English-speaking people with limited language skills. Students had to be certified by the IRS with a test score of at least 80 percent.

Preparing for retirement, Social Security, and other retirement issues will be the focus of this month’s “Getting Your Dough to Rise” program from 6 to 7 p.m. on KSER (90.7 FM). Joining host Chuck Noel will be Andy Landis, author of “Social Security, The Inside Story” and renowned educator in retirement planning, and Lisa Peters, a certified financial planner at Lakeview Financial Group in Seattle. Cardiac Science Corporation of Bothell will release its second quarter and six-month 2010 financial results Thursday. Cardiac Science Corp. is a global leader in automated external defibrillator and diagnostic cardiac-monitoring devices.
Northpoint Escrow + Title announced its expansion into Snohomish County, adding a new, centrally located office in Everett, the fifth office for the nearly three-year old company. The new location, at 3120 Colby Avenue, Suite 100 in Everett, opens August 1. The new location will house escrow, title, client services and social-media services. Carl Jorgensen, newly named vice president, Snohomish County manager, will manage the Everett office. Northpoint’s Snohomish County sales team includes Kara Peebles, Laurie Cole, Engy Goldrick and Kim Cripe. The Everett office team members include escrow officer Erianne Berg, escrow closer Jamie Eshleman and escrow assistant Stephanie Pierce.
WI Environmental, based on Whidbey Island, announced that its XR-88 remediation system passed a critical test, showing it is not harmful to fish or aquatic life. The XR-88 system removes heavy metals from stormwater runoff and pressure-wash water in samples taken from a Seattle boatyard at Lake Union. WI Environmental’s XR-88 system is designed to catch runoff, move it through the unit and combine with the XR-88 compound to turn heavy metals into nontoxic waste.
