Melissa Arias has been named associate director for advancement at the University of Washington’s Bothell campus. Arias will focus on the campus’ development activities to secure major gifts and broaden the donor base for the institution.

Han and Sophia Kim have opened Paradise Sushi and Grill at 2707 171st Place NE, Suite 101, in Marysville’s Lakewood Commons shopping center. Free dental checkups for children ages 1 to 12 will be offered at eight Haggen Food &Pharmacy stores during August. The dental checkups are offered by Colgate in a 31-foot-long van equipped with two dental chairs. Checkups are scheduled for 2 to 5 p.m. Aug. 10 at Marysville Haggen Food &Pharmacy and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 19 at Stanwood Haggen Food &Pharmacy.
Retired human resources manager Don Burrows presents free weekly sessions for job-seekers this month at Upper Case Books and Collectibles in Snohomish. Good deeds
The Boeing Co. donated a 747 jet engine to Everett Community College’s Aviation Maintenance Technician School to help train future aviation mechanics. The Pratt &Whitney JT9D engine, from a 747 freighter, is the foundation of all engines for modern wide-body jets.
