Bedard scheduled for more shoulder surgery Friday

As if it wasn’t already apparent from the setbacks and period of inactivity, Mariners pitcher Erik Bedard’s season will be finished before he could even throw a pitch because of another round of surgery he’ll need on his left shoulder.
Bedard will undergo surgery Friday in Seattle, performed by Mariners medical director Dr. Edward Khalfayan and L.A. surgeon Dr. Lewis Yocum. Yocum operated on Bedard’s shoulder last August, repairing a torn labrum.
This will be the third operation in a 24-month period on Bedard’s shoulder. He had surgery Sept. 26, 2008 to remove a cyst and, after he continued to experience discomfort in his rehab, a second surgery Aug. 14, 2009, when the torn labrum was discovered.
The Mariners did not say what the latest round of tests revealed that led to the decision for a third surgery on Friday.
Bedard hasn’t thrown a competitive pitch for the Mariners since July 4, 2008.
