Lake Stevens police say man tried to bribe cop

LAKE STEVENS — Police jailed a Lake Stevens man Friday night after he allegedly tried to bribe an officer with a $100 bill.

The man, 25, was pulled over around 8 p.m. in the 9900 block of N. Davies Road, Lake Stevens police spokeswoman Jennifer Anderson said.

An officer became suspicious when he noticed an improper license plate on the trailer the man was towing behind his vehicle, she said. The driver allegedly handed over his Washington identification card along with a folded $100 bill.

He told the officer the money was for him if the officer let the man drive off, Anderson said.

The man was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of bribery and first-degree driving with a suspended license.
