Arlington: Station 46 will be renovated
The city has gone out to bid on reconstruction of Fire Station 46, located downtown.
The $1.7 million renovation is expected to break ground in mid-October.
The project will demolish the firefighters’ living quarters on the south end of the current, cramped 50-year-old building. It will be replaced with a 3,900-square-foot, two-story structure providing living space for more staff.
A new roof over the truck bays will replace the aging metal roof and the old fire department administration building is to be demolished to provide parking and an area to wash firefighting equipment.
Senior center offers its chicken dinner
Stillaguamish Senior Center offers its monthly chicken dinner from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd.
Cost is $8, $7 for seniors and $5 for children. Proceeds go to senior center activities.

District posts school calendar
The Arlington School District’s 2010-11 school calendar is now available on the district website, www.asd.wednet.edu.
Lake Stevens: Work closes intersection
East Soper Hill Road will be closed beginning Monday through Friday at the Highway 9 intersection.
Crews will work to lower the road grade by several feet in the intersection to match the elevation of the widened highway. Drivers will be able to use Lake Drive to access East Soper Hill Road.

Marysville: Apply for City Council seat
The city is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the City Council.
Applicants must be registered voters who have lived inside Marysville city limits for at least one year before Aug. 2. Those who have resided for at least one year in recently annexed areas also are eligible to apply.
Submit a resume and a letter of interest stating why you want to be a council member to Tracy Jeffries, assistant administrative services director, at Marysville City Hall, 1049 State Ave., Marysville, WA 98270.
Letters of interest must be received at City Hall by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 8. The position is expected to be filled at the Sept. 27 council meeting.
The person selected will fill the remaining term of Councilman Jon Nehring, which expires Dec. 31, 2013. Nehring stepped down from his council position Aug. 2 when the council appointed him to serve as mayor.

Snohomish: Old Time Fiddlers jam
The Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association Dist. 16 plans an all-day jam from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel on Swans Trail, 5419 64th St. SE, Snohomish.
Admission is by donation. Coffee and water provided.

Langley: Caring for aging parents
Longtime nurse and retired Army Col. Grethe Cammermeyer, owner of Saratoga View Adult Home, plans to talk about caring for aging parents at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Chiropractic Zone, 2812 E. Meinhold Road, Langley.
The suggested donation for the presentation is $15, with proceeds going to the Whidbey Camano Land Trust to save the Trillium Woods near Freeland.
