Edmonds: Help Sister City group
The Sister City Commission is looking for volunteers to fill two vacant positions on the 12-member body.
The nonpaid volunteers serve 3-year terms. Requirements include attending one 7 p.m. meeting the fourth Monday each month, participating in committee work and holding at least one executive position. Volunteers also are expected to help out when visitors from Hekinan, Japan — Edmonds’ sister city — pay a visit. Applications are due by 4:30 p.m. Sept. 24.

Snohomish: Help promote tourism
The city is accepting applications from nonprofit agencies for projects to promote and develop tourism to the city.
Applications and instructions are available at the city’s website at www.ci.snohomish.wa.us or call 360-282-3197 to request an application.
Applications will be accepted until Wednesday Sept. 22 at 4 p.m. Complete applications must be submitted to the City of Snohomish offices at 116 Union Ave.
Applicants will need to present their projects at the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee meeting Monday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. in City Hall.

MountlakeTerrace: City sells bonds for projects
Mountlake Terrace on Aug. 16 sold $6.2 million in bonds to pay for water, sewer and storm water construction projects.
The city will finance the projects over 20 years by paying off the bonds, which are held by investors.
City Manager John Caulfield said the city was fortunate to secure a 3.47 percent interest rate and a AA bond rating, which is considered excellent.
“Just a month earlier, we were projecting in the range of 5 to 5.5 percent,” he said. Caulfield said the city expects to save $920,000 over 20 years because of the interest rate.
Darrington: Business group
A new Darrington Business Association is forming at a meeting set for 7 tonight at the Cascade Senior Center, 1115 Darrington St.
The association is for business owners and representatives of nonprofit groups operating within the boundaries of the Darrington School District.
The goal is to create a marketing strategy to encourage tourism.

Darrington: Trail closure announced
Construction will close North Fork Sauk Trail 649 Tuesday through noon Friday at Mackinaw Shelter, milepost 5, to the Pacific Crest Trail junction at milepost 9.
Hikers can access Glacier Peak Wilderness from the North Fork Skykomish Trail 1051.
