Events planned in Snohomish County to commemorate 9/11

Events planned around Snohomish County in remembrance of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks include:

Everett Elks candlelight vigil: 7:30 p.m. Saturday in front of the Elks Lodge at 2802 Hoyt Ave.

Lake Stevens Patriot Day ceremony: 10 a.m. at 12409 21st St. NE, in front of Fire Station 81. People are invited to stop by before 6 p.m. to sign a copy of a commemorative book. One copy will be sent to the New York Fire Department. A second book will be sent to the Pentagon memorial in Alexandria, Va. Another will be sent to the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pa. A fourth book will go to the Lake Stevens Historical Society to be placed in the Lake Stevens Museum.

Marysville Rotary Club work party: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Jennings Park, meeting at the south parking lot off Highway 528. The service project will include painting, gardening, cleaning up, power washing. Needed tools include gloves, rakes, shovels, edger, trimmers, saws, pruners, wheel barrows and various hand tools. Prayer Vigil for World Peace: from 12:01 a.m. until midnight Saturday at Camano Lutheran Church, 850 Heichel Road, Camano Island. Sponsored by the Stanwood-Camano Ministerial Association. People are invited to serve as prayer leaders for an hour or simply to stop in and pray. Prayer leaders may choose to lead a silent vigil or to play music. Snohomish County Fire District 1 remembrance ceremony: Firefighters at 12 District 1 stations will observe a minute of silence Saturday morning. Crews plan to gather at their stations’ flag poles at 6:55 a.m.

Snohomish National Day of Service: Hosted by Snohomish Fire and Rescue. A memorial service is planned for 7 a.m. at Fire Station 43, 1525 Ave. D, Snohomish. Open house is planned from 9 a.m. to noon, with breakfast, fire station tours, activities for kids. People also can sign up for the Day of Service cleanup projects planned Saturday throughout the city. Those who want to participate should bring tools. More info: Howard Lewis, 425-328-0331.
