Arlington: Pioneer Day event is Saturday
The Stillaguamish Valley Pioneer Association plans its annual Pioneer Day event for 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Pioneer Hall, 20722 67th Ave. NE, Arlington.
Planned are hands-on activities for children who want to learn how the pioneers did their chores. Kids will have a chance to milk a cow, churn butter, grind wheat, make a shake shingle, wash clothes the old-fashioned way, play with old toys, pump water and saw logs.

Camano Island: Build a rain garden
Learn how to capture and soak up stormwater runoff from your roof or other impervious surfaces around your home by creating a rain garden at a workshop set for 7 tonight at the Camano Multipurpose Center, 141 E. Camano Drive.
Zsofia Pasztor, a certified professional horticulturist and landscape designer, plans to talk about how to build a rain garden.
Camano Wildlife Habitat Project, Friends of Camano Island Parks and the Island County watershed project are sponsors.

Stanwood: Legion Post holds fundraiser
American Legion Frank Hancock Post 92 has scheduled its main fundraiser, a prime rib dinner, for Friday at the post, 26921 88th Ave. NW, in downtown Stanwood.
Tickets are $11 each. Proceeds support scholarships and projects for veterans.
The dinner starts at 4:30 and continues until the food is gone.

Warm Beach: Clothing exchange for women at festival
A new “Free Fall Finger Food Fashion Festival for Females” clothing exchange is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Warm Beach Community Church, 9260 188th St. NW.
Women are encouraged to bring clean and gently used clothing, shoes and accessories for exchange with others. Treats will be served. Any remaining clothing items will be donated to the Snohomish County Center for Battered Women.

Darrington: Forest road closure Friday
Mountain Loop Highway is scheduled to be closed 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday 20 miles east of Granite Falls to repair the Marten Creek Bridge.
During the closure people can drive through Darrington to get to Deer Creek Road 4052, Perry Creek and Mount Dickerman trails, the Big Four Ice caves, Monte Cristo and Bedal and Clear Creek campgrounds. Access to Lake Twentytwo, Mount Pilchuck, Heather Lake, Gold Basin and the Turlo and Verlot campgrounds will be through Granite Falls.
