50 YEARS AGO (1960)

Cadet 1st Lt. Dennis C. LeMaster, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde LeMaster of 770 Crown Drive, Everett, was chosen as a Distinguished Military Student by the Army ROTC at Washington State University. A senior, he was chosen for his leadership ability and general academic standing. Only 13 of 50 seniors were chosen for the honor.

Doyel Goard, son of Elsie McCrory of Monroe and a 1950 Monroe High School graduate, reported to the Naval Training Center in San Diego, Calif., for basic training, after which he would train as a hospital corpsman.

25 YEARS AGO (1985)

Bruce A. VanSkiver of Everett, an Air Force second lieutenant, was the “distinguished graduate” of a class of 10 Air Force students completing flight training at Fort Rucker, Ala., last month. He was now assigned to Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla.

Brian L. Tunis, a 1985 Mariner High School graduate, was awarded a $1,000 college scholarship by the publisher of “Who’s Who Among American High School Students.” Now attending the University of Washington, Tunis was one of 50 students nationwide selected for scholarships from the publication’s Educational Communications Scholarship Foundation.
