Learn about the native botanic diversity of the Pacific Northwest and why it is important to preserve it when Russ Holmes speaks at the next Camano Wildlife Habitat Project meeting. Holmes, a retired botanist with the National Forest Service, plans to speak at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Camano Multipurpose Center, 141 East Camano Drive.

Darrington: Community Center cookbooks available
The Darrington Community Center Cookbook is still on sale.
Proceeds from the sales of the $20 cookbook benefit a fund to replace the gym floor and roof at the center. Only about 200 cookbooks are left, center spokeswoman Diane Boyd said.

Granite Falls: Fire safety at the library
Families can learn about fire safety on Tuesday at the Granite Falls Library. The Granite Falls Fire Department will give a presentation from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the library at 815 E Galena St.

Scientist leads Bug Safari at the library
Kids and members of their family can learn about insects from a bug scientist on Oct. 23 at the Granite Falls Library.
Brian Rolf of Seattle Bug Safari will show off his live bug zoo and answer questions from 2 to 3 p.m. at the library at 815 E Galena St. The program is supported by The Friends of The Granite Falls Library and Sno-Isle Libraries Foundation.

Marysville: Help clean up Strawberry Fields for Rover
Members of the nonprofit group, M-DOG, or Marysville Dog Owners Group, plan to hold a work party on Saturday at Strawberry Fields for Rover.
The group has a stewardship with the city of Marysville Parks Department to maintain the off-leash dog park at 6100 152nd St. NE. The cleanup work is scheduled to begin at noon at the park. People who are interested in learning more or volunteering with the group can attend the next M-DOG meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Haggens Market Deli, 3711 88th St. NE. in Marysville.

Stanwood: Glass Quest II set for Feb.
Stanwood/Camano Glass Quest Committee members hope even more business owners plan to participate in February in the treasure hunt intended to lure tourism to the area.
Last February more than 12,000 visits were made to participating businesses by people in search of clues that resulted in rewards of glass art balls.
