Edmonds: Public meeting on budget for Snohomish County

The Snohomish County Council plans to seek public input about the 2011 county budget at a meeting Monday night at Edmonds City Council Chambers, 250 Fifth Avenue N.

The meeting, scheduled for 6 p.m., follows others held last week in Smokey Point and Willis Tucker Park.

County Executive Aaron Reardon released a nearly $202 million proposed general fund budget Sept. 30, calling for cuts across all departments. The County Council is likely to present its version of the budget in November. The final version is expected to pass by early December.

Everett: Hearing on electric vehicle zoning

A public hearing on a proposal to allow electric-vehicle charging stations throughout the city is set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the city’s Planning Commission meeting, 2930 Wetmore Ave.

The purpose of the proposal is to encourage people to drive electric cars and remove barriers to creating the infrastructure for electric vehicles.

There are conditions to the proposal, including that charging stations on some downtown streets designated as “retail” would be prohibited within the public right-of-way and not be visible from the sidewalk.

Granite Falls: Firefighters plan safety demonstration

Firefighters from Granite Falls Fire District #17 are scheduled to present a program on fire safety for children and families Tuesday at the Granite Falls Library.

The event takes place from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the library, 815 E. Galena St.

Crews will demonstrate firefighting equipment and read a story about fire safety. A fire truck and aid car will be there if not on a call.

Mountlake Terrace: Dance, costume carnival Saturday

The City of Mountlake Terrace Dance Program and Kontagious Dance Company will host their fifth annual Costume Carnival from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Terrace Park School Gym, 5409 228th St. SW.

The event at the school’s gym includes harvest festival activities, dance performances, costume contests, a magician and fortune teller.

Performances by Kontagious and Dance Program students will be ongoing throughout the event and tickets will be available at the door.

Admission is $5, or $10 for families of up to four. Proceeds will benefit the Mountlake Terrace Dance Company Scholarship Fund and the Kontagious Dance Company.

Snohomish: Drive will benefit local Boys, Girls Club

The Mountain River Youth Ranch is sponsoring a fundraising drive at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Snohomish Boys and Girls Club, 402 Second St.

Ticket costs are $15 for individual and $25 for couple. It includes desserts, drinks and line-dancing lessons.

The organization helps at-risk youth by teaching them how to interact and take care of horses.

The money raised goes to cover operational costs.
