Effectiveness of home sprinkler systems shown in Lake Stevens demonstration

LAKE STEVENS — Snohomish County Fire District 8 plans to host a live fire demonstration at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Haggen Food &Pharmacy parking lot at 8915 Market Place.
The demonstration is intended to show the difference sprinklers can make in the crucial moments between a 911 call and when firefighters arrive, said Robert Marshall, fire marshal for the district.
“It’s geared for the adult set,” he said. “They can be educated as to what the new codes actually require.”
One fire will destroy a furnished demo room, adjacent to a second demo room with sprinklers that won’t sustain much damage.
The event is paid for with a grant from the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition, Marshall said.
“It’s to try to help do away with some of the myths that have been shown through Hollywood as to what happens with sprinkler systems,” Marshall said.
