EvCC instructor wins humanitarian award
Everett Community College art instructor Thom Lee recently won an exemplary status award from the Washington Community Colleges Humanities Association.
Lee received the award on Oct. 16 in Longview at the WCCHA conference. He was nominated by EvCC Humanities Center coordinator Joyce Walker.
“Thom Lee is an extraordinary teacher and exceptional colleague whose work and life exude a profound devotion to the humanities,” Walker wrote in her nomination.
In his visual arts class, he uses perspectives and information from science, math, music and literature. He also brings humanities to other classes, such as co-teaching a calculus class with a math instructor.
Lee has participated in a variety of EvCC Humanities Center events, including a vocal recital in February, EvCC’s Humanities fairs in 2008 and 2009 and has been a member of the college’s Humanities Steering Committee since 2005.

Dramafest 2009 begins at Kamiak
The 16th annual Dramafest opens today and runs through Oct. 31.
Dramafest is Kamiak High School’s one-act play festival. The seniors in Kamiak’s drama department direct their peers in a series of one-act plays.
This year, 14 seniors have taken on this task.
General seating tickets can be purchased the same day as the show at the school’s box office, 10801 Harbour Pointe Blvd., Mukilteo.
The Academy Awards of Kamiak High will be presented Oct. 31. The evening will culminate with a tradition of auctioning off the announcement of the 2010 spring musical title.
