The ugly halftime numbers
So it’s now 35-0, and the Seahawks have been outgained 298 to 81, and have 19 first downs to Seattle’s 6.
Charlie Whitehurst has completed 9 of 19 passes for 64 yards and two interceptions in his debut. That’s good for a QB rating of 16. Eli Manning, meanwhile, is 17 for 21 for 232 yards, three touchdowns and a rating of 152.3.
28-0
Another score for the Giants has turned this into a blowout with over 9 minutes to play in the first half.
The Seahawks actually moved the ball a little on their next possession, but the drive ended on Charlie Whitehurst’s second interception of the day.
It’s worth noting that the Giants are really picking on CB Marcus Trufant today, and so far it’s working for them.
Also, TE Chris Baker has a foot injury. His return is questionable.
And just like that, it’s 21-0
Wow, this game got out of hand in a hurry. First Eli Manning hit Hakeem Nicks for a 46-yard score, then Leon Washington fumbled the ensuing kickoff, which led to a 4-yard Ahmad Bradshaw touchdown.
Not sure I see the Seahawks digging out of this hole.
Giants take a 7-0 lead
Ahmad Bradshaw scored from 2 yards out to give New York an early lead, and the way the Seahawks are playing on offense so far, that could be a lot to overcome.
Seattle went three-and-out on each of its first two possessions, and so far has -4 yards of total offense. The Seahawks did force a turnover on the Giants’ first possession when Aaron Curry forced a fumble, but that led to a Seattle punt.
Charlie Whitehurst and this offense will have to get something going soon for Seattle to stay in the game.
Pregame
As expected, the Seahawks are missing several key starters for today’s game. The hope was that DT Brandon Mebane might be able to make it back from the calf injury that has kept him out of three games, but once again he is out. With Colin Cole (ankle) also inactive, and DE Red Bryant on injured reserve, the Seahawks are missing three quarters of their starting D-line today.
As expected, Chester Pitts is getting the start at left tackle with Russell Okung and Tyler Polumbus both out. This will be Pitts’ first start at that position since 2005. It’s also worth noting that FB Michael Robinson, who would be the team’s emergency third quarterback—he played QB in college—is out again with a hamstring injury. Not sure what the Seahawks would do if both Charlie Whitehurst and Zac Robinson go down. Then again, if it gets to that point, the Seahawks probably don’t have much shot at winning the game anyway.
Here is the full list:
