Edmonds CC names distinguished alums

After earning two-year technical degrees, this year’s Edmonds Community College Distinguished Alumni were able to work full time and support their families while advancing in their professions.

Alan Howard, a senior engineer at Huntron Inc. in Mill Creek, and Jeff Smoot, an attorney at Lasher Holzapfel Sperry &Ebberson law firm in Seattle, are the recipients of Edmonds Community College’s 2009 Distinguished Alumni Awards, which recognize educational accomplishment and excellence in service to the community.

They will be honored 6 p.m. Dec. 3 at a champagne reception followed by an awards ceremony in the theater lobby, Mukilteo Hall, Edmonds Community College, 20000 68th Ave. W, Lynnwood. To attend the ceremony, call 425-640-1274 or e-mail kristyl.drew@edcc.edu by Nov. 24.

Edmonds SD students receive AP Awards

The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program (AP) provides motivated and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP Exams.

Student qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. Students who earned this honor are: Julia Tumbic (Edmonds-Woodway); Jesse Bratt, Marissa Brent-Tookey, Jennifer Carver, Maeve Cullen, Caley Devries, Lianne Fijalka, Hannah Giese, Amanda Goffard, Samantha Hartford, Quinton Ronquillo, and Nellie Shippen (Meadowdale); and Kelsey VanDalfsen (Mountlake Terrace).

Students qualified for an AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. These students are Sally Chu (Edmonds-Woodway); John Anderson, Teos Bisbee, Austin Clement, Shannon Daughtrey, Phuc Duong, Elizabeth Hall, Darren Howell, Elaina Kelso, Natalie Kim, Matthew Landon, Margaret Laush, Hannah Olsen, Sara Portesan, Brennan Shaw and Jesse Wackerbarth (Meadowdale); and Jack Clinch, Whitney Gretch, and Jessica Lindsay (Mountlake Terrace).

Students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams with grades of 3 or higher.
