I’m all aTwitter (updated with new year’s eve reminder)

Yes, the inevitable has happened. I am now a part of the Twitter world and will be providing those 140-character updates on the Silvertips. I’m not sure exactly how I’m going to employ my Twitter account, and I’m still learning the nuances of the program. Therefore, don’t expect a dozen tweets a day, at least not yet. But relevant news will go out as fast as possible. I can be followed at NickHPatterson, and eventually the most-recent tweets will show up in the left-hand column on my blog as well.
My first real tweet has been posted, and it deals with the trade deadline. I talked to Everett general manager Doug Soetaert today about the state of the team heading into the new year. He made some pointed remarks, which you can read in the story that runs Friday. But one thing I thought should be shared immediately, particularly given the conversation that happened during Tuesday’s live blog, is that he doesn’t intend to be a seller at the trade deadline. He doesn’t think the team will be much of a buyer, either, given the team has already made moves this season and that the prices are sky high. He thinks the team has the pieces to be competitive, but the veterans need to commit themselves to the team concept.
As for head coach Craig Hartsburg, he was non-committal when asked whether he’d be behind the bench for Friday night’s game home game against Vancouver. So there’s a chance he’ll be making his return.
Finally, the Tips have a second 15-year-old practicing with the team. Defenseman Tye Hand, the second of Everett’s second-round picks in the past bantam draft, is in town practicing with the team. He is not expected to get any game time. He joined center Ryan Chynoweth, Everett’s other second rounder, as underagers spending part of the holidays with the Tips. Both are already signed to WHL education contracts.
—- UPDATE, 4:10 p.m.
Just a reminder that because of new year’s eve, Friday’s game starts at 6:35 p.m. instead of the normal 7:35 p.m. Friday start time.
