Increases dictated by 1973 legislation

Monday’s letter “More of the same in the new year” has lots of opinions that I don’t think are supported, but it also has something that factually isn’t true, this line: “The same guys who froze Social Security benefits for the struggling elderly for years…”

The lack of a raise in Social Security wasn’t anything the current government had any say over. Social Security increases are dictated by legislation passed in 1973. The current government couldn’t change it, to freeze or raise.
