Official to stay put

Snohomish’s city manager was passed over for a job in the city of Shoreline, where he was one of three finalists for city manager.

Larry Bauman has been the Snohomish city manager since 2002 and said he applied for the new job because it’s closer to where he lives.

On Tuesday, Shoreline announced that it had selected an internal candidate, assistant city manager Julie Underwood, for the job. Bauman also had worked as Shoreline’s assistant city manager before being hired by Snohomish.

Gravel pit hearing: A public hearing on the expansion of Menzel Lake Gravel is scheduled for 9 this morning in Everett.

The gravel company, located a couple miles outside Granite Falls, has applied to Snohomish County to expand from 51 acres to 283 acres.

The hearing is set in Public Hearing Room 2 on the first floor of the Administrative East Building at 3000 Rockefeller Ave.

Be a leader: Leadership Snohomish County offers its third annual training for board members. Any nonprofit organization can send board members to the training session.

There will be workshops on recruiting a diverse board, ethical leadership, stewardship responsibilities, finances, strategic planning and working through tough times.

The training is planned for 4 p.m. Feb. 24 at Everett Community College, 2000 Tower St., in Everett. It costs $65 and includes a light dinner.
