Lynnwood police hunt for man who robbed woman, 86

LYNNWOOD — Police are looking for help identifying a man who knocked over an elderly Lynnwood woman and snatched her purse Friday.
The 86-year-old woman was shopping with a friend, 31, when she was pushed to the pavement from behind in a busy retail parking lot in the 19500 block of Highway 99, Lynnwood police spokeswoman Shannon Sessions said. The robbery occurred around 5 p.m.
The woman screamed and attempted to hold her purse, Sessions said. That got the attention of her friend who then ran after the suspect. The friend yelled and attempted to stop the robber from getting into the passenger side of a sand- or gold-colored minivan, Sessions said.
The suspect is described as white or light-skinned and in his early 20s. He was wearing a dark, puffy coat and dark pants and a ball cap.
Nearby surveillance cameras captured part of the robbery on tape. The video isn’t available for public release, but police are circulating two photographs of the suspect and the van he used to escape.
Lynnwood Fire Department aid crews said the woman did not have serious injuries.
