Glass Quest to start

Stanwood and Camano Island business owners are gearing up for a second year of the glass ball treasure hunt.

The 2011 Great Northwest Glass Quest is set for Feb. 18 through 27.

Stanwood-area glass artist Mark Ellinger has created more than 200 handblown glass snowballs for the event. Each of the snowball treasures is kept at local businesses. Maps and clue balls lead treasure hunters to the locations of the glass snowballs.

Treasure hunters who do not find one of the snowballs can enter a drawing, or purchase one at a reduced price.

Participating businesses and sponsors can attend the 2011 Glass Quest Kick-Off at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Camano Senior and Community Center, 606 Arrowhead Road, Camano Island.

Tourist group in Terrace: The Mountlake Terrace City Council approved a new agreement to create a Tourism Promotion Area. The agreement includes Snohomish County and eight of its cities.

The TPA would chip in $1 per room per night of occupancy taxes on hotels and motels with 50 or more rooms.

In the city, only the Studio 6 hotel would be affected by the TPA.

Dance on Feb. 11: The Lake Stevens Family Centers Youth Advisory Council and the Lake Stevens Senior Center plan to host a Valentine’s dance Feb. 11 at North Lake Middle School at 2202 123rd Ave. NE.
