GOLD BAR — Storm damage from two weeks ago has closed Reiter Road, with repairs likely to take months, Snohomish County officials said.
Storms and flooding between Jan. 15 and 17 caused several road closures, though most were temporary. On Reiter Road, that weather contributed to two landslides plus collapsed pavement on several sections of the road, county spokesman Christopher Schwarzen said.
The problems forced the county to shut down the route about 3 miles east of Gold Bar and 1 mile west of Index. The route isn’t heavily traveled, but is popular with outdoor recreation enthusiasts.
Repairs to Reiter Road could approach $1 million, Schwarzen said. The county is seeking federal and state money to cover the cost.
Separately, the county is working to repair problems along the Mountain Loop Highway near Silverton. A slide there has restricted the road to one lane.
