Edmonds: Art show at Anderson Center

A joint exhibit titled “Impressions — Paper & Stone” begins Thursday in Edmonds.

The exhibit, a collaboration between artists Jim Ballard and Richard Hestekind, will be on display at the Frances Anderson Center, 700 Main St., t

hrough March 15.

This exhibit, using sculpture and painting, also includes a prototype book of embossed images with Braille and English text that was created for the Louis Braille School in Edmonds, a nonprofit K-12 day school.

Lake Stevens: Clubs plan poker tourney

The Rotary Club and Purple and Gold Clubs of Lake Stevens are planning a Texas Hold’em poker tournament on March 12 at the Lake Stevens Team Fitness Center in Lake Stevens.

Registration is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. There is a $50 buy-in. Food and beverages are included with registration and beer and wine can be purchased during the tournament.

Participants can enter the tournaments raffle to win a spot at the finals table. Proceeds from the tournament go to both clubs to support local activities and projects.

Mill Creek: Benefit for Kayla Healy

A fundraising event for Kayla Healy, a Jackson High School student who needs a double lung transplant to save her life, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 18. The event, called COTA for Kayla, will include a hypnotist. It will take place at the Gold Creek Community Church’s student center, 4326 148th St. Tickets are $12 in advance; $15 at the door.

Sultan: Ceremony to recognize residents

People who have done something special for the community in the past year will be awarded this Saturday at the Sky Valley Community Award Celebration.

The ceremony is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Sultan High School, 13715 310th Avenue SE. The event is free. The Sky Valley Chamber of Commerce will post the list of recipients at its website, http://skyvalleychamber.com, next week.

Share ideas for comprehensive plan

The Sultan Planning Board wants to hear from the community about changes to the city’s comprehensive plan.

The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 tonight at the Sultan Community Center, 319 Main St.

This is one of several meetings where people can discuss the plan. In today’s meeting, the topics include housing, land use and economic development.
