Arlington: School yearbooks sought

This Stillaguamish Valley Genealogical Society is seeking donations of school yearbooks from the Arlington, Darrington and Stanwood school districts.

School yearbooks are a valuable resource for people looking for family history. Visitors from

as far away as Australia have used the society’s genealogical library to do family history research, the librarian said.

Donations can be made at the library, 135 N. Olympic Ave., from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.

Yearbooks also can be mailed to SVGS, P.O. Box 34, Arlington WA 98223.

Camano Island: Learn about shoreline development

The Island County WSU Beach Watchers on Camano Island have organized a series of free informational sessions about living on Camano Island beginning Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Camano Multi-purpose Center, 141 N. East Camano Drive.

The first speaker is Katrina Hoffman of Sea Grant Washington. She plans to talk about sustainable shoreline development in the Salish Sea region.

Granite Falls: Library hosts Dr. Seuss party

The Granite Falls Library is planning to celebrate the birthday of the famous children’s author.

Activities, games, trivia, cake and a visit by one of the “Cat In The Hat” characters are set to be part of a birthday party for Dr. Seuss at 1 p.m. on Feb. 26 at the library.

The event is for children ages 5 to 12 and is supported by The Friends of The Granite Falls Library. The library is located at 815 E. Galena St.

Marysville: Memorial scholarship concert

The Marysville Kiwanis Club is planning a concert to showcase some of the community’s young musicians, while raising funds for student vocational-technical scholarships.

The Kenneth J. Ploeger Kiwanis Memorial Scholarship Concert is set for 7 p.m. on March 18 in the Marysville-Pilchuck High School Auditorium, 5611 108th St. The lineup includes the Marysville Jazz Bands, and special guest, the Eastern Washington University Jazz Band led by conductor Rob Tapper, director of Instrumental Jazz.

The fund was named by the Ploeger family in memory of Kenneth Ploeger, a longtime dedicated Kiwanis member and city of Marysville employee, who died in August 2007.

Donations of canned goods or other nonperishable food items for the Marysville Community Food Bank will also be accepted at the concert.

Tickets may be purchased by calling 360-653-3646 or at the door. Prices are $5 for students, $10 for adults and $15 for families.
