Brazil’s TAM orders 34 Boeing, Airbus jets

Brazil’s TAM Airlines announced plans to buy 34 aircraft on Monday.
The carrier finalized a deal with the Boeing Co. for two 777-300 Extended Range jets.
“TAM continues to position itself as one of the world’s leading airlines,” said Marlin Dailey, vice president of Sales & Marketing for Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
The orders is valued at roughly $568 million at list prices, though airlines rarely pay full list price.
TAM also signed a tentative agreement to order 32 single-aisle jets from Airbus. The order consists of 10 A320s and 22 of the new A320 new engine option aircraft, due out in 2016.
“The A320neo will fit neatly into TAM Airlines’ fleet, offering maximum benefit for minimum change,” said John Leahy, Chief Operating Officer, Customers.
When the order is finalized, it will make TAM the first Latin American carrier to order Airbus’ new A320 neo.
