Service set for Gerry Andal

A public memorial for local restaurateur and country musician Gerry Andal is scheduled for 2 p.m. March 27 at Comcast Arena’s Edward D. Hansen Conference Center, 2000 Hewitt Ave., Everett.

Andal, 68, died Friday in Everett after undergoing heart surgery. A fixture at the Evergreen State Fair, the country musician and horse enthusiast had run restaurants in the area for decades.

Retire flags: An American flag that is very worn, frayed or faded should not be displayed and should be retired in a dignified manner. American Legion Post 58 in Monroe is organizing U.S. flag retirement ceremonies each June and November.

The post has placed a U.S. flag collection container at the Monroe City Parks and Recreation Department, 769 Village Way in Monroe.

The container is a converted U.S. Postal Service sidewalk mailbox, painted white with American Legion Emblems. To view a retirement ceremony, obtain new flags, or see if you qualify to join the American Legion, call 360-863-3544.

Summit Saturday: The Granite Falls City Council plans a meeting Saturday about the city’s economic future. It’s scheduled for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Granite Falls High School, 1401 100th St. NE. Anyone may attend.
