Let’s watch the bantam draft

The WHL announced today that the awards luncheon and the bantam draft will be webcast live for free next Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.

Since there are no Silvertips up for awards this year, I won’t bot

her tuning in for that. However, the bantam draft? I’m there. I guess.

I must admit I’m not a big draft guy, as least when it comes to watching these things. And when I have no clue who any of the players are, as is the case with the bantam draft, it’s not like there’s a huge buzz of anticipation going on in my brain. But since I’ll be sitting in front of my computer all day anyway so that I can continually update a draft thread, I might as well watch the webcast.

I am curious about what we’ll see. I personally don’t know how the draft works from a logistical standpoint. Do team representatives go up to a podium to announce selections? Are names yelled out from team tables? Do teams have those helmet phones with the team logo on it on their tables like the NFL? And what’s the production value going to be on this broadcast? Are we going to get multiple camera angles, clear audio and names flashed up on the screen? Or are we going to get the single camera pointed at the main table, with sound garbled such that we’re guessing on the name that was called?

Oddly enough, right now I find myself more curious about these questions than about who the Tips might pick.

Oh, and the Tips pick seventh overall. That’s the highest Everett’s picked since before the Tips played a game. I’ve been told this draft that may not have those can’t-miss superstar prospects, but is deep in good prospects. So Everett could end up with the top player on its list.
