Walk: Learn about native plants
The Adopt a Stream Foundation is inviting people for a native plant walk.
The walk is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Northwest Stream Center in McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett. People need to buy tickets in advance. Admission is $5 for members, $7 for non-members.
Naturalist Tom Noland will teach participants to identify native plants they are likely to encounter in the area, even in their own back yards. The group will learn why native plant buffers are critical to salmon and wildlife habitat, and how American Indians used plants for building materials, food and medicine.
After the walk in the woods, the group will learn how to preserve leaves using a plant press.

The Everett Community College’s Humanities Center is hosting a lecture by Rabbi Mark Glickman.
Glickman will speak about his book, “Sacred Treasure — The Cairo Genizah: The Amazing Discoveries of Forgotten Jewish History in an Egyptian Synagogue Attic,” from 12:20 to 1:20 p.m. May 16 at Whitehorse Hall, Room 105. The college is at 2000 Tower St., Everett.
Glickman leads congregation Kol Shalom on Bainbridge Island and congregation Kol Ami in Woodinville. He traveled to Egypt to see the Cairo Genizah and write about its history, said Katherine Schiffner, a college spokeswoman. A genizah is a repository for damaged Jewish manuscripts, and Cairo’s had once housed the largest collection of medieval Judaic manuscripts. Glickman’s book describes the discovery of the documents by the Western world in 1896.
