Arlington: Bill Blake to talk about outdoors

Arlington’s natural resource manager Bill Blake and guest speakers plan to present an educational series discussing streams, wetlands, geology, plants, animals and fish, and the regulations and policies that keep it all going.

Classes are 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays through May 26 in the city council chambers, 110 E. Third St.

Spring Fling dance set for Saturday

Stillaguamish Senior Center members offer a Spring Fling dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd.

The Cascade Ramblers plan to provide the tunes.

Tickets are $8 or $4 for children. The price includes drinks and snacks.

Granite Falls: Superintendent finalists selected

The Granite Falls School Board has selected three finalists for the superintendent position.

After conducting its own search for candidates, the board has named Karen Ernest, Linda Hall and Linda Martin as the finalists.

Ernest is superintendent of the Mossyrock School District, east of Centralia. Hall serves as the student services director and special services principal of the Clarkston School District in Eastern Washington. Martin is an elementary school principal and superintendent for the Lopez Island School District in the San Juan Islands.

The board expects to name the new superintendent at its May 19 meeting, said district spokeswoman Kathy Grant.

The new superintendent will replace Karen Koschak, who is retiring after 33 years in public education. The new superintendent is scheduled st start July 1.

Lake Stevens: Hillcrest Elementary PTA hosts auction

The Hillcrest Elementary School PTA is planning a raffle and silent auction Friday.

Proceeds from the event scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. will help the PTA pay for programs such as Li’l Hungry Hearts, a backpack food program for students and their families. The PTA also plans to use the funds to help pay for field trips and classroom supplies.

The raffle and silent auction is set to include baskets put together by each classroom, tickets to Remlinger Farms, a ride to school in a fire truck, and family tickets to any three races of the 2011 season at Evergreen Speedway among other items. Kids can also dance to music in the school gym while their parents browse the auction items.

Stanwood: Veterans information fair set

Stanwood American Legion Post 92 is sponsoring an information fair for military veterans from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the post headquarters, 26921 88th Ave. NW in downtown Stanwood.

Assistance filing claims and other paperwork along with resource materials will be available, along with refreshments.
