Boeing adds orders for 20 jets this week

The Boeing Co. posted orders for 20 aircraft this week, bringing its mid-year net order tally to 171.

The new orders, from undisclosed customers, were added to Boeing’s orders Website on Thursday. The orders included 14 737s and six 777s.

Boeing trails rival Airbus in orders at the halfway point of 2011. Airbus also reported its orders for the first six months of the year on Thursday. The European jet maker added 601 net orders last month, bringing its total to 640 net requests so far this year.

Boeing also updated on Thursday the number of jet deliveries it has made through June. Boeing delivered 118 aircraft in the second quarter and 222 jets total this year. Airbus has delivered 258.
