Lincoln departs

In preparation for its next deployment, the USS Abraham Lincoln left Everett on Wednesday afternoon for a sea trial and training mission.

The aircraft carrier is scheduled to return to Naval Station Everett in several weeks, said base spokeswoman Kristin Ching.

The Lincoln, which has been a fixture in Everett for 15 years, is set to leave this year for a deployment and then head to the East Coast for a long-term refueling of the ship’s nuclear reactors.

Tour old Everett: Historic Everett offers a walking tour Saturday.

Plan to meet at 1 p.m. at the northwest corner of Hewitt and Wetmore avenues in Everett.

It costs $10 or $5 for members.

The Hewitt Avenue Historic District Tour will be with historian Jack O’Donnell who will share information about architectural heritage in the downtown area.

Talent show for Night Out: The Lake Stevens Family Center hosts a talent show Aug. 2 during the community’s National Night Out Against Crime event.

Those who want to perform for up to three minutes can call the Lake Stevens Family Center to register and receive a performance time.

The National Night Out Against Crime event from 5 to 9 p.m. on Main Street and at North Cove Park is set to include children’s activities, a free dinner and the third annual “Guns and Hoses” showdown between the Lake Stevens police and fire departments. Street hockey is to be hosted by the Boys & Girls Club.

The purpose of the national night out is to heighten awareness of crime and drug prevention.
