Front Porch: Celebrate Gold Dust Days

Gold Bar will celebrate its fifth annual Gold Dust Days with the slogan “step back in time” this weekend.
The celebration will start at 3 p.m. Friday with a bicycle parade and the girls’ beauty pageant.
The event is scheduled to continue at 10 a.m. Saturday with a parade, and will continue from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Gold Bar Elementary School, 419 Lewis Ave. in Gold Bar, and at the U.S. 2 Park two blocks away.

Defensive course for seniors: The Ken Baxter Community Center in Marysville is taking registrations for an AARP defensive driving course open to those over the age of 55.
The two-day class is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 10 and 11 at Marysville Fire Station 66, 7217 40th St. NE.

Free children’s play: An outdoor performance of a fairy tale is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday and not Friday at Legion Memorial Park in Everett.
The college provided the wrong date for this week’s performance.
Theater students are set to tell the story of Tom Thumb, who wanders into an enchanted wood while searching for a way home. The play, “Tales from the Woods,” is an original children’s story written by EvCC instructor Beth Peterson.
Performances are also scheduled for Legion Memorial Park, 145 Alverson Blvd. on Aug. 4; at EvCC, 2000 Tower St., next to Jackson Center, July 30, Aug. 6 and 13; and at Forest Park, 802 E. Mukilteo Blvd., at the indoor theater Aug. 11 and 21.
All performances are at 6:30 p.m.
