Boeing seeks up to 3,000 job applications in Charleston

The Boeing Co. is hoping up to 3,000 people will submit job applications for work at its South Carolina site.

The state’s ReadySC program, which helps train Boeing 787 workers, will begin accepting job applications at midnight Friday, the Post and Courier reports. It will stop accepting resumes when it has received the 3,000 limit.

Ultimately, ReadySC will narrow the job pool down to 1,000 people for Boeing to pick from going forward.

Boeing has established a second 787 final assembly line at its North Charleston location. The company also took over two of its 787 supplier plants there. Altogether, about 5,000 employees and contractors work at Boeing’s site there, a spokeswoman told the Post and Courier.

Here in Washington state, Boeing also is hiring. The company added roughly 4,200 jobs in the state in the first six months of 2011.

To help Boeing and its suppliers find workers, an aerospace job fair will be held in September.
