Everett tops Kootenay 3-1 in Kennewick

OK, I understand Kootenay doesn’t have anything like the team it had last season, when the Ice claimed the WHL championship. I also understand that every team is well below full strength because of players away at NHL rookie training camps.

But is this for real? Everett outshot Kootenay 40-16 in this game, at least according to the scoresheet. It was 31-10 after two periods. Is this really the same Everett team that was outshot 45-14 by Tri-City in its exhibition opener just a week earlier?

Cody Fowlie scored another goal for Everett, giving him four in four games. Zach McPhee and Brennan Yadlowski also found the net for the Tips.

One of the things the Tips really wanted to evaluate this weekend was the goaltending. That’s tough to do when Luke Siemens faced just five shots during his half of play.

Anyway, that evens Everett’s preseason record at 2-2. The Tips play Seattle at 11 a.m. Saturday to conclude their time in Kennewick.
