Britain’s Prime Minister David Cameron helped Airbus officials open the company’s A350 wing factory today in Wales.

The jet maker’s new site, called Airbus North Factory, eventually will employ 650 people.

The site will manufacture carbon fiber composite wings for Airbus’ A350 XWB jet. Airbus plans to deliver its first A350 in 2013.

“The Airbus North Factory, a truly world-leading aircraft wing assembly plant, is a major pillar in the Airbus global setup,” Tom Enders, Airbus chief executive, said in a statement. “The opening today marks an important milestone for our A350 program as we move towards the start of the aircraft final assembly.”
