OAK HARBOR — Eastside Catholic quarterback Trey Reynolds helped lead the Crusaders to an impressive come-from-behind victory against Oak Harbor Friday in a 3A quad-district playoff battle. The dual-threat Reynolds tallied a combined 393 yards of total offense to go with four touchdowns as the Crusaders rallied from a 33-22 deficit in the third quarter to stun the Wildcats 50-33.
Oak Harbor built its lead behind its trademark rushing attack with seniors Josiah Miller and Brent Ryan leading the way. Miller carried 22 times for 169 yards and a touchdown and Ryan added 137 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries in their final high school game.
Despite piling up 377 yards on the ground, the Wildcats were done in by three late turnovers — two interceptions and a fumble.
“We made mistakes down the line, they didn’t. They played really well down the stretch. We just made too many turnovers,” said Oak Harbor head coach Jay Turner.
Eastside Catholic running back Chevy Walker rushed 13 times for 81 yards and three touchdowns as the Crusaders move on to the state playoffs.
For Oak Harbor, the loss ends a season in which it reeled off eight straight wins only to close with two consecutive losses.
