Boeing to replace its Everett jet delivery center

The Boeing Co. is moving forward with plans to build a larger jet delivery center in Everett.
In April, Boeing said it would replace its existing delivery center with a new one.
“With production rates increasing across all airplane programs, we expect deliveries in record numbers for years to come,” Jeff Klemann, vice president of the center, said in a press statement Friday. “A new facility will allow us to best serve our customers as we deliver Boeing’s finest airplanes at a pace that continues to quicken.”
Boeing will demolish in January its delivery facility in Everett. The company has handed over roughly 3,500 aircraft from that delivery center since the late 1960s.
The new center will be about 180,000 square feet, or roughly three times as large as the existing site, said Elizabeth Fischtziur, spokeswoman for Boeing. The center will open in the first quarter of 2013.
In the meantime, Boeing will deliver aircraft out on the field near the runways at Paine Field. For larger, more significant deliveries, Boeing and its customers can lease the Future of Flight Aviation Center and Boeing Tour building.
Fischtziur said about 600 Boeing employees and airplane customers who work in the delivery center will move over to the neighboring modification center, where Boeing workers are modifying some of the company’s earliest built 787s to meet standards required for delivery.
